Marion County Community Center Ordinances Pass!
After considerable discussion, the proposed Marion County Community Center Ordinances were advanced during the Monday, December 8th, 2025 Quorum Court meeting. Passage of these ordinances will allow the community center proposal to go before the people at the March 3, 2026 election. Marion County Community Services, Inc. expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Justices John Reed, Leslie Kerwood, Wesley Shipman, Tommy Dorsey, and Tommy Dean Johnson as well as Judge Jason Stumph for promoting the people’s right to vote on this initiative!
Many thanks to Sarah Giammo, Public Finance Attorney, Friday, Eldredge, & Clark, Little Rock, Sam Pasthing, Attorney for MCCS, Inc. and Michael McBryde, Senior Vice-President, Stephens Public Finance for a thorough explanation of the legal and financial aspects of the community center proposal.
The first ordinance provides for a temporary ½ cent construction sales tax to build the community center. The new Marion County Jail ½ cent construction bond pays off in the spring of 2026. If approved by the people March 3, 2026, this ½ cent sales tax would continue until the community building pays off. The second ordinance asks for a new permanent ¼ cent sales tax to help support the community center. Right now, Marion County’s sales and use tax rate is 1.75%. If the people of Marion County vote to continue the ½ cent sales tax for construction of the proposed community center, it will remain 1.75%. The much needed permanent ¼ cent maintenance sales tax will raise the tax rate to 2.00% until the community center pays off at which time it will drop to 1.50%.
Many of you have supported this project for years! We are so grateful! In recent months we have reached out to the people of Marion County for support to move this project forward. You answered our call for help! It is your actions and belief in this project that have secured your chance to vote for the Marion County Community Center March 3, 2026!!! Many, many thanks!!! May you and your loved ones have a wonderful holiday!
